ENJOY DIVING IN CRYSTAL BAY – NUSA PENIDA’S GATEWAY TO THE MAJESTIC MOLA MOLA
Crystal Bay is one of the most famous dive sites in Nusa Penida—and for good reason. Tucked inside a protected cove on the northwest side of the island, the bay opens to the deep, current-rich channel between Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan. This area is a hotspot for encountering rare and large pelagic species, especially the elusive oceanic sunfish (Mola mola) during its seasonal appearance.
Just a 5-minute speedboat ride from many departure points, Crystal Bay offers both dramatic diving conditions and incredible biodiversity, making it a must-visit site for experienced divers.
Dive Site Overview:
Type:
Protected bay with access to deep channels and open ocean currents

Divers are kindly reminded not to touch or hold onto corals during strong currents

Exceptional macro opportunities: frogfish, seahorses, nudibranchs, and more in the shallow reef areas

This is not a drift dive, and due to the challenging conditions, it’s recommended only for skilled and experienced divers

The name “Crystal Bay” truly reflects its stunning underwater visibility
Highlights:
Crystal Bay is globally renowned as one of the best places in the world to encounter Mola mola (oceanic sunfish). During the peak season (July to October), divers flock here for a chance to witness this majestic creature in its natural habitat. While the site can become crowded during this time, there are many nearby alternatives around Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan that offer equally good chances with fewer divers.
